He Wants it All by forever Jones is an Anthem
73What Constitutes an Anthem?
An anthem can be a song which devotes loyalty unto God. He Wants it All by forever Jones does exactly that! This song calls upon all, whether a devoted Christian, agnostic, atheist, backslider, robber, or thief to consider, who is He and what is my all that He is seeking?

He Wants it All Lyrics
There's a voice that cries out in the silence,
searching for a heart that will love him,
longing for a child that will give him their all,
give it all, he wants it all
And there's a God that walks over the earth,
he's searching for a heart that is desperate,
And longing for a child that will give him their all,
give it all, he wants it all
And he says, love me, love me with your whole heart
he wants it all today
serve me, serve me with your life now
he wants it all today
bow down, let go of your idols
he wants it all today (x3)
He wants it all
There's a God that walks over the earth,
he's searching for a heart that is desperate,
longing for a child that will give him their all,
give it all, he wants it all
And he says, love me, love me with your whole heart
he wants it all today
serve me, serve me with you life now
he wants it all today
bow down, let go of your idols
he wants it all today (x3)
He wants it
Oh oh oh, all of you, more of you
wants it all today oh oh oh (whole thing x3)
Today, today
he wants it all today, he wants is all today
so give it all
There's a voice that cries out in the silence,
searching for a heart that will love him,
longing for a child that will give him their all,
give it all
He wants it all
Justification for My Anthem Assertion
When comparing the United States National Anthem to He Wants it All, one could immediately see no correlation at all. However, with careful inspection the following can be beheld:
- Despite the ramparts built, loss of life, and bombs during the war of 1812 at Fort McHenry, freedom prevailed there as the national flag yet waved. Similarity to He Wants it All is that though we as humans stray away from God (sin), put things before God (idols), get too busy to daily devote time to the Father, allow others success or failure cause us to slip, or fail to worship His Majesty, God is still sovereign and on the throne. Just as victory was won at Fort McHenery and the U.S. flag yet withstood, God is God no matter what hurt, disappointment, or trials (battles in life just as Fort McHenry)! He is calling for our complete commitment to his will (bible in its entirety as divinely inspired by God).
- Both songs invest trust in God in His sovereignty. See the except below from the U.S. National Anthem (verses we don't normally hear that Francis Scott Key wrote as a poem).
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
To trust God with our entire being, giving up things that separate us from God, or cause us not to remain faithful in fellowship as He Wants it All describes, certainly requires trust in God, (faith).
- Notice in the U.S. National Anthem the flag waved over this free land because of the courageous who fought to defend (brave). Surely national pride (flag pride) came about due to this victory. In He Wants it All, God remains the supreme deity and desires for His creation to serve, adore, and reverence Him.
Final Thoughts
Congratulations to forever Jones. I pray you continue writing anthems such as this! Lastly, my endeavor here has been to persuade readers that this song which is the #1 song on the Billboard chart is befitting of the same title as the Star Spangled Banner, anthem. If it were humanly possible to interview a survivor of Fort McHenry, any soldier would tell you of their undying loyalty to the U.S. That's probably where the term "Old' Glory" comes from. That same loyalty is what the forever Jones family band is admonishing us to hold (through or lifestyle) for the true and living God, believer and unbeliever alike!
